Case Study
Client: Clear Media (Bristol, UK)
Contact: Michelle Britton, Chris Cook
Requirements: Logo Design, Website Concept
Clear Media are a talented pair of web developers from Bristol, UK who specialise in creating elegant solutions to complex technical web problems.
After gathering together some of the requirements for the Clear Media brand I set out with an initial refresh of their original logo. From first impressions of the original logo file I could see the direction that was being taken, so I set out to maintain the overall style of the logo, keeping a nice rounded typeface of the word clear and finding a suitable brush script effect to help add character and personality to the design.
With the word clear being a prominent part of their brand name, and an insight into the transparency of the company, I decided to present this visually through the logo. The two words were combined and tweaked with an overlay effect that alters the underlying colour. The result is a clean, crisp logo that the folks at Clear Media can now use for both their web presence, and their printed material with industry standard vector files.
Moving onto the webdesign, I helped out with the creation of the Photoshop documents. Being web developers themselves Michelle and Chris had the coding skills to easily build a concept into full working website. Their main desires were to create a slightly distressed style, with features such as paper, wood, pulp and textures.

Sketches for the layout were conducted with reference to their sitemap. A design was created using a four stripe approach to split the website into header, feature area, main content and footer. The blue and grey branding was also brought through from the logo, with the bright blue making a great highlight colour for the feature header and links.
A range of textures were used in the design to really rough it up, a couple of stains here and some grainy textures there soon created an appealing interface. With transparency being a key part in the logo and nature of the company, it was also continued onto the website, allowing the detailed textures to show through on the buttons and image borders.
"OMG – We love it!"
"It is exactly what we were looking for and it extracted the exact response we had hoped to get from our new site which was “wow” :o) so a big big thumbs up from here, we are really mega pleased with it"
