SpoonGraphics

By now I’m sure you’ve gathered that I’m a creative designer, an avid blogger and that I’m generally crazy about pretty colours and shapes. If you want to know more, grab a warm drink, light the fire and cuddle under a soft blanket while I condense my life story into a few paragraphs.

Born and raised in Sheffield, UK I went to school just like many. Throughout education I always excelled in the artistic topics, from building a robot out of cardboard boxes and empty toilet rolls to winning the ‘Sammy the Seahorse’ colouring competition. This led to me heading down the creative route in school, college and university, choosing subjects such as Art & Design as my main focus. I decided that I wanted to be a Graphic Designer at quite a young age (with superhero and secret agent being backup careers), and went on to land my desired job and began working as a Graphic and Web Designer in the field.

Visit Blog.SpoonGraphics In April 2007 I setup a personal blog over at Blog.SpoonGraphics, originally to experiment with the Wordpress application and to give myself a digitial playground to practice and develop new techniques. I began posting design tutorials and free vector graphics, and soon the posts received a nice bit of traffic. This continued on an upward trend ever since and the site has now gained fame and recognition around the world, resulting in staggering traffic and subscriber stats, both in the tens of thousands.

In September 2008 my blogging shenanigans had provided me with some great exposure as a designer, and generated a good base revenue that allowed me to leave my position as a designer at a local studio and begin my career as an independent designer. I’m now living the freelance lifestyle with a mix of design projects from around the world and constant creation of blog posts, tutorials and design project insights. I’ve seen a mass of opportunities through the increased exposure blogging has provided, such as inclusions in various high profile websites and publications, appearances in magazines and a position as a co-author of an exciting design related book.

Visit Line25 In March 2009 I branched out with a second blog, named Line25, where I continue my documentation of all things design, but this time with a solid focus on web design. Topics include showcases of popular trends, design and coding tutorials and a roundup of my favourite web designs each week. This site has been well accepted into the community and is growing and developing at an outstanding rate.

This blogging lifestyle naturally keeps me updated with the latest industry changes. I’m subscribed to hundreds of design blogs and constantly surf the blogosphere, not to mention my geekishly active profile on Twitter, where I post my findings and updates on a daily basis.
